Self Portraiture: Embrace it or is it All Too Scary?

Sophia Norris

Often, we are conflicted about how we look. We can be confused; confident or down about ourselves, specifically the ways others view our most intimate body part: our face.

In this course we opt to embrace not flee by doing an about face! We get to discover who we are by delving into our individually through the wonderful, creative process of art making.

Our guide on this journey is Sophia Norris, talented portrait artist. You will be shown how to draw your facial proportions accurately using a fast, time-honored technique that really works!

The group will then learn how to apply values/tones to add depth and three dimensionality to the self-portrait by employing classic grey scale! What could be better?

There is no drawing background needed! We are not aiming for perfection as who is perfect and why would we even want to be? Our focus is on learning something about our unique individuality in a positive, learning environment. Facing ourselves can be scary at first but it can lead to finding ourselves. It is all about the community connection and our shared human experience.
